I can tell that you have not been doing bonsai for as long as you say you have. On your first video you don’t have bonsai pliers, you are using needle nose pliers. So please chasnsx, stop giving advice, because really you don’t know what your are doing.

I feel chasnsx that you know much about bonsai, but from watching your videos, you really don’t. It’s better you stop giving advice to those who need good advice from some one qualified.

I have a needle nose pliers in my bonsai tool box, but the answer to your question is, no it won’t. I use the needle nose pliers to bend wire on occasion, and sometimes to strip bark for a jin or shari, but that’s about it.

No. Large nurseries that carry bonsai trees might have them, but generally you have to either go to a bonsai nursery, or buy them online. My bonsai club has a guy who has a Joshua Roth franchise, and I get all my tools from him.

This is true. My first few years in bonsai when I was young and broke, I got by with a garden pruner and an electrician’s wire cutter for the wire. You should buy bonsai wire, though — electric wire from the hardware store cost just as much as bonsai wire and the bonsai wire works better.

actually, believe it or not, the act of dwarfing trees originated in egypt long before china or japan… the chinese how ever picked up on this art and called it penjing- tree in a small pot, then the art carried on throughout asia and was known as bonsai by the japanese……

In your “more info” section, you say that Bonsai is Chinese. It is not. Bonsai is a Japanese art. The Chinese have a similar are, not as refined as Bonsai, called Penjing.
As for tools, concave cutters are essential. Japanese-made tools, pots and wire are far superior to Chinese or Korean.

To be honest, this is all you need to be in bonsai from the stuff he said, good branch cutters and some razor sharp scissors. The rest is really optional. Like for wire….. you can use other stuff you get for 5 bucks at the local hardware shop.

I agree with leefyboodle. Not to be replicated in any way but i managed to do an entire shari on my jap maple using a screwdriver and a hammer. Tree survived.

bonsai tools cost a bloody fortune if you want the proper stuff…You don’t NEED any of it…You can just get ordinary tools to do exactly the same job…Although the scissors having a cutting edge not a crushing edge is about all ya need..go dig in your dads tool kit.
