@DanFrederiksen ….at least garlic is a little easier/quicker to replant, wherein you just save a few bulbs for planting instead of consuming, and just plant the separated cloves. lol.

@DanFrederiksen Onions that are allowed to flower and go to seed (much like carrots) take about 1-1/2 to 2 years of growing, in which case, I don’t believe -thogh I may be wrong- the onion underground is then good to eat, you would only do this to get your own seeds from it. You can buy seeds that come from flowers, OR “sets” or “bunches” that are basically seedlings of onions. They’ve already been sprouted and you just replant them, and don’t take as long to grow.

    Tree for Sale

I have an onion-growing question. When to plant the onions started from seeds a week ago outside?

    Weather background:
I started my onions a week ago indoors and the seeds have sprouted. Here in Washington DC, we barely have any frosts since it almost never gets below 32 degrees. Occasionally, we will have a snow storm in March.

The tulip bulbs are already coming up. Since onions are a cold weather plant, would it be OK to plant them now?
