The Rose of Sharon

Review Date: March 7, 2010

I love the name, White Chiffon Hibiscus, of the flower. This was a gift for our son. Unfortunately, we've had a cold winter this year in Florida and the hibiscus froze. Disapointing! Very happy with the purchase through Amazon.
Such a beautiful flower and a very healthy young plant!

Okay, I have Rose of Sharon bushes, and so do many people. The purple and blue flowered ones are everywhere. Don't take that the wrong way, I love them and have a lot of pride in mine (the hummingbirds love them too by the way). So I wanted something different. This is not only different, but it is beautiful. The plant itself is about 9" tall, and covered with healthy foliage. It had two open flowers and countless buds when it arrived!! The buds continue to bloom, and more are forming daily! The flower - it looks as soft and lovely and inviting as the picture - and excellent choice for a hardy Rose of Sharon that responds to attention and is a touch above the rest!! It comes potting in a Proven Winner labeled pot (a great brand), with a label stapled to it. It tells you what it is, but the care instructions are not there. So - from my experience with the Rose of Sharon, they love Sunlight, but can be put in an area that does not receive all day sun...mine get the early morning and evening sun only - and are VERY happy. Soak the heck out of the dirt and the pot when transplanting (Root Activator is a great help with transplant shock - btw), then water lightly daily. Mist the leaves of the new transplant, it helps give water if the roots are in shock. Once it is established and showing signs of new foliage and branch growth, water when the soil looks dry :D! After a few years, you can start pruning/shaping the bush/tree. EITHER late fall or very early spring...but never when you see new growth/buds.
